Yesterday, the Obock region hosted a large delegation including the representative of the IOM Regional Office in Nairobi, representatives from the Swedish Embassy in Addis Ababa and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDCA), based in Stockholm, the representative of the European Union, and the IOM representative in Djibouti. The regional prefect, the president of the regional council, the director of social development for the ADDS (Association for the Development of Social Solidarity), as well as representatives from sectoral institutions and local communities, attended the validation of the Community Action Plan.
The plan presented is the result of a broad consultation process with the affected populations. It reflects their desire to be actively involved in discussions and decision-making processes concerning their well-being, particularly regarding mitigating the impacts of migration flows. The communities of Obock emphasized that the document accurately reflects the needs they had previously identified and expressed their gratitude to the teams that contributed to its development.
Co-implemented by ADDS and IOM, this project aims to identify, prioritize, and respond in a coordinated manner to the needs of host communities, which are particularly vulnerable to the effects of migration. Through this initiative, ADDS reaffirms its approach based on listening, its close ties with the Djiboutian population, and its ongoing commitment to supporting communities in the face of the challenges posed by migration dynamics.
