Solidarity Week 2014 – 200 Dikhiloises proud of their livelihoods

Activities related to the week of solidarity continued Monday in the region Dikhil with the official launch of community services intensive labor program nets financed by the World Bank with the participation of the Agency Djibouti Social Development (ADDS ) .

The National Week of Solidarity continues around the country. Monday is the city of the unit who welcomed the strong delegation led by the Secretary of State for Solidarity Zahra Youssouf Kayad and composed especially the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Moussa Ahmed Hassan .

Several representatives of UN agencies took part in the day which was attended by all the inhabitants of the city unit .

Greeted on arrival by the prefect of the region Dikhil Mohamed Hassan Shaykho and President of the Regional Council , Abdurahman Yonis Arreh , visitors were pleasantly surprised to see that almost all the inhabitants of the city had gathered in the early light of day in front of the prefecture to accommodate guests.

And among the crowd gathered , many women beneficiaries of community services intensive labor were present, wearing green vests and masks.

These women can now meet the needs of their families through this program implemented in the framework of social safety nets.

The objective of this program for vulnerable households and lactating women is especially subtract the vulnerable sections of the local population in the throes of poverty.

This program is part of the social safety net program focused on employment and the foundations of human capital will affect more than 800 women identified among the most vulnerable families through Dikhil .

Conducted in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, this pilot program will improve the nutrition of children under 5 years of fighting against the disease and thus support the poor.

The first phase of this program was first targeting fringes of different populations most vulnerable districts, based on consumer behavior .

200 women will therefore start at first work of general interest developed by the ADDS and enable them to benefit and income support over a period of 50 days.

City Dikhil therefore benefit from the support provided by women for its beautification and preservation of the environment through the cleaning and rehabilitation of public infrastructure.

Upon arrival instead of the prefecture, the delegation led by the Secretary of State for National Solidarity was greeted by chants and dances performed by young dikhilois .

After this demonstration of popular enthusiasm , Reeve mohamed hassan Shaykho spoke to say the importance of this program that allows women from disadvantaged backgrounds benefit from daily income over a period of fifteen months.

“The Djibouti government has placed through this project, the needs and expectations of the poorest in the center of the Social Development Strategy households ” Has he said.

Mohamed Shaykho has also stated that the first phase of this program has allowed the identification of vulnerable families and assist women and malnourished children.

“We are confident that this program of intensive services labor will have positive benefits for the most vulnerable households ,” he has said.

Thereafter , the President of the Regional Council , for its part, said that through this program High Intensity Manpower or HLI , the government has set up a National Social Protection Strategy by placing the risks and vulnerabilities as a central challenge to reduce poverty and improve human capital.

“This initiative demonstrates the supreme interest that the government places on welfare , social and economic progress of the various components of the national community and in particular those parts of the interior.

With the definition of HLI and their role in the National Social Protection Strategy , Djibouti advance towards a system of universal social protection open and consistent with the broad national strategies such as the INDS , “said he added.

Then the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Moussa Ahmed Hassan recalled outline of this program will undoubtedly strengthen maternal and child health and reduce malnutrition among children under 5 years. Over a period of fifteen months, it will help more than 800 women to fight against insecurity has he said.

Concluding the series of official speeches, the Secretary of State for National Solidarity Zahra Youssouf Kayad was immediately clear that the best option chosen to help these women to fight against malnutrition was the establishment of income-generating activities , such the work of community interest within the city.

“We hope to extend this initiative in all areas of the interior . This program has an impact on reducing the vulnerability of vulnerable households. “

Moreover, Zahra Youssouf Kayad recalled that at the end of their work period , the beneficiaries would be replaced by other women before returning to said program and rework .

” Other facilities such as the establishment of savings accounts with the CPEC they will also be awarded with the participation of ADDS to help mount income generating activities to keep the positive impact of this program. “

The day continued with the presentation of material compounds wheelbarrows , shovels and other agricultural tools to the beneficiaries of this program.

By late morning the delegation led by the Secretary of State has moved into the field to see firsthand the daily work of these women.
