Arta region: For improving health conditions in rural areas

Organized by the Djibouti Social Development Agency (ADDS) in close cooperation with civil Team Camp Lemonier, awareness and information sessions on hygiene and health will take place over several weeks in the localities of Douda, Damerjog and Atar. The target groups are women who have volunteered to improve the living conditions of their families and communities.

The Djiboutian Social Development Agency (ADDS) held last Tuesday in the town of Douda, launching awareness and training sessions on issues of hygiene and cleanliness and first aid. And, it must be specified, with the support of the American allied Camp Lemonnier.

The launching ceremony was attended by the Director General of the ADDS, Mahdi Mohamed Djama, director of social development, Dirieh Farah Souldan, and many agents of the ADDS, as well as the Regional Vice Chairman Arta, Abdi-Noor Chakib.

The event inaugurates a series of trainings that will be organized for the benefit of self-help groups and affinity localities Douda, Damerjog and Atar in the region of Arta.

These awareness and information sessions it be spread over several weeks. Twenty women Douda form the target audience of these courses which focus on first aid, prevention of the spread of diseases, good hygiene and sanitation practices, the importance of balanced diet and finally the proper storage of food and safe food.

Learners have volunteered to improve the living conditions of their families and their community.

Note that the self-help groups and affinity were created in 2011. They meet once a week and save money for a common collection through which they can eventually start income generating activities.

This approach has been applied in the context of a pilot project àDouda, Damerjog and Atar. It was successful.

Members of these groups have invested in the social development of their respective villages where they organized clean-up days at health centers, primary schools, mosques, etc …
