The Djibouti Social Development Agency organized last Thursday, at the headquarters of the Regional Council of Ali Sabieh, a micro-contest for the beneficiaries of the project to promote youth employment and crafts or PROPEJA. The initiative was made possible through the funding of a Japanese donation administered by the World Bank.
The event was attended by the sub-prefect of Ali-Sabieh region, Mohamed Abass Houmed, representative of the Ali-Sabieh Regional Council, Mohamed Aden Farah, ADDS representative Mohamed Ahmed Amin, and the representative of the so-called “PROPEJA” program, Abdoulatif Mohamed Abdillahi. For example, 19 projects were submitted by 57 young people aged 16 to 29 who had dropped out of school. 19 of them received training on entrepreneurship and self-esteem organized by the ADDS.
The objective of the project is to improve the accessibility of young people and women to income and employment opportunities through training, coaching and financial support for the implementation of Their income-generating activities.
The project provides basic training on entrepreneurship, a micro-project competition and support to women artisans in production and marketing.
In the long term, 2,200 young people will be trained in the field of entrepreneurship through a guide developed by the project team. Approximately 1,200 groups of promoters will be able to benefit from a start-up fund following the validation of the regional committee.
Same, 800 women will receive training and financial assistance to improve their value chain. That is to say the interest of this project. This includes training on design, colors, and the allocation of a fund for the manufacture of handicrafts.
Another component of the program is support for women to facilitate the sale of their products to the local market.
