Management of acute malnutrition: Better trained community volunteers

A workshop on the management of acute malnutrition which closed yesterday at the headquarters of the NGO Bender Djedid, located to the west of Djibouti city Salines. ADDS was organizer. And this, remember, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the local UNICEF office. This meeting brought together 2 days on-site representatives of UNFD and actors of the associative fabric of the capital and interior regions. Both of them together were able to integrate the basic techniques of the management of acute malnutrition. It is now aware of their turn agents of community relays on the risks of acute malnutrition in newborns, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
The Djiboutian Social Development Agency (ADDS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and UNICEF organized from 24 to 25 April 2016 at the headquarters of Bender Djedid, a training workshop on the management of acute malnutrition in newborns, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
The work of this training session were led by the charge of nutrition in ADDS, Souleika Mohamed, his counterpart UNICEF Kalil Sagno, and the coordinator of the national nutrition program, Salma Ismail. The trainers taught the representatives of UNFD and actors of the associative fabric of the capital and regions within the basic techniques for the management of malnutrition.
The one and the other will play the role of facilitator with agents of community health centers in risk prevention of acute malnutrition in newborns, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. This project seeks a change in behavior among the local population through various channels of communication and services.
These include home visits, animations of group information sessions, or the organization of culinary activities, weighing, size, promotion of exclusive breastfeeding and good nutrition and health practices.
ADDS, the Ministry of Health and UNICEF expect through this better use of services and basic care such as pre and post-natal consultations, assisted deliveries, vaccinations and preventive care for children by users of community health centers.
