Promotion of gender equality in Obock: A case study

A group of women, of different ages clases, decided to create the association, called “Voices of Youth Obock women.” The founding of the association want to share with the girls and women obockoises their experiences from their professional and personal experiences. By creating the Voice of Women Obock, these pioneers have chosen to represent themselves, to decide for themselves their activities and encourage other women to change their attitude of dependence.

The initiative aims various objectives. This is its instigators to improve basic and functional literacy skills of women in rural and elderly in 18 to 40 years, to promote the eradication of poverty through empowerment through literacy, empower women to enable them to make useful contributions to their communities, to educate women on health issues in general and reproductive health issues in particular, to popularize the importance of adult literacy for women community development.
Concretely, the association “The Voice of the Young Women Obock” wants to offer courses in functional literacy – reading, writing and arithmetic in a professional setting – 150 women aged 18 to 40 in the region Obock. The associative structure also intends to distribute learning kits and employs specialist teachers, formed upstream in psychosocial support to adult literacy and education for peace, that these literacy courses are for these women obockoises real training, complete and tailored to their needs.
These literacy classes are accompanied by sensitization of households and local leaders on the importance of women’s literacy and its impact on the education, health and protection of their children. Learners will also benefit from remedial education and participate in awareness workshops on the rights of children.
Through these courses, women not only know how to read, write and calculate, but can also and above all find a skilled job. These women will be able to provide for their families and contribute to the development of the local economy. They will gain the respect of their community and create a way out of the vicious circle of poverty. Here are some lessons learned from allocations made by local personalities at the ceremony certificates for learners held Friday 19 February at the capital of the region of Obock. The president of the association “The Voice of the Young Women of Obock,” Kadiga Ibrahim Idriss, had seized the opportunity to extend thanks supported the President of the Republic, the First Lady, and management of ADDS to their ongoing commitments in promoting the cause of Djiboutian women.
