Tooling the craftswomen for the success of their products
The Djiboutian Agency for Social Development yesterday, at UNFD headquarters, launched a training course on the development of new artisanal products, targeting in particular basketry and pearls.

800 craftswomen from different women’s associations will benefit from this training organized by the ADDS with the support of the NGO Aid to Artisans. The aim is to develop local crafts by revitalizing the associations’ know-how in this area. The launch ceremony was attended by the Minister of Women and Family, Moumina Houmed Hassan, the Secretary of State for Social Affairs, Mouna Ahmed Osman, the Japanese Ambassador to Djibouti, Tatsuo Arai, the representative of the World Bank, UNFD Secretary-General Fatouma Moussa, and the three training experts sent to the country for this purpose by the NGO Aid to Artisans.

In a speech on the occasion, the Secretary of State for Social Affairs, Mouna Ahmed Osman, said that “this training aims to enable women artisans to cope with constraints related to innovation, development and marketing. of their products “.

She added that “the project is working to develop the entire artisanal value chain so that women artisans and associations can really make good profits by taking into account the quality / price ratio”.

For her part, the Minister of Women and the Family, Moumina Houmed Hassan, said that “in memory of Djibouti, the women of this country, whatever their community, have always worked basketry and pearls,” adding that “products made from basketry were used and still serve as decorative carpets or mats, bags for women, containers for housewives. As for pearls, they have always been used as a beauty accessory. “

In a word, we learn, the training will allow a revival of the design of craft products, an improvement of the techniques of making to have a product with a quality of finish and image to international standards.

Finally, the training session will allow women artisans to master basic sales techniques to make products more attractive and their prices more affordable and acceptable.
