Balbala: Solar street lights that change people’s lives

Secretary of State for National Solidarity, Zahra Youssouf Kayad , along with local elected officials and the Director General of the Djibouti Social Development Agency (ADDS ) went in the evening last Saturday on multiple sites Common Balbala which were erected solar street lights . And this must be added , with the mayor of Djibouti city, Hussein Abdillahi Kayad , the chairman of the Joint Balbala Yusuf Hassan Nouho , the Director General of the Djibouti Social Development Agency (ADDS ) , Mahdi Mohamed Djama and representatives of several architects of the integrated urban development project.

During these visits, the Secretary of State for National Solidarity was first made ​​on a section of the road leading to the city where six Hodan solar street lights were erected .

On the square Hayableh , the delegation led by Ms. Zahra Youssouf Kayad has seen firsthand the excitement that was popular a concrete translation of the real impact of the project.

“We are happy because we were able to install solar street lights in very dense Balbala residential areas .

Our goal was to illuminate pockets of poverty Balbala plunged into darkness . With the light was now created spaces for convenience and safety thanks to the light , ” she has said.

“The president wants to make Djibouti a country with a 100% green energy . And installation of the most environmentally friendly lighting , was selected by the government for public lighting in the capital but also in the interior regions and it is for this reason that we very happy because it is the fruit of collaboration between the ADDS , the municipality, the municipality of Balbala .

For his part, the mayor of the capital recognized that the installation of these lamps had helped change the lives of people Balbala .

“These changes are palpable , small businesses are now safe , cars and passers-by as well. Thank ADDS and the Secretariat for National Solidarity who executed this project in the context of the roadmap for President Ismaël Omar Guelleh of Djibouti city using green energy “

“We have 200 solar street lights installed across the country , 20 in each region and the rest in Djibouti city . It has also completed the installation at the cemetery PK12 , and now we have good coverage on this site.

We will also continue the school facilities of the Palmeraie, because it is a very dark place , as well as in several other places . We also go into the interior regions and Obock , 20 panels are available and ready to install.

Also, we have also begun work to Tadjourah and soon we will go to Arta. In terms of siting, our priority is of course the schools, the safety of children , the poor neighborhoods where the needs are enormous.

Prior to installation , we consult with our colleagues in the EDD to see if they have plans to install power lines in this area.

We also send letters to Djibouti Telecom and ONEAD to see sil no cables or water supply networks in these areas . “
