The participants of the workshop, which ended yesterday at the headquarters of UNFD were trained on prevention of maternal and child malnutrition community based . For three days, they have also incorporated an outline of the national nutrition policy and basic knowledge of the national protocol for the management of acute malnutrition.

The conference room UNFD yesterday hosted the closing ceremony of a training of trainers workshop on the prevention of maternal and child malnutrition based community .

Jointly chaired by the Director General of the Djibouti Social Development Agency , Mahdi Mohamed Djama and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Ali Silay , the closing ceremony was attended by thirty nutritionists Ministry of Health as well as representatives of national associations.

For three days , participants of the workshop were trained on prevention of maternal and child malnutrition in community-based and more specifically on the national nutrition policy as well as on the national protocol for the management of acute malnutrition.

Incidentally, the management of malnutrition in institutional departure , based solely on health facilities , has rapidly evolved into a community-based approach at the end of 2007.

Said Community approach is implemented in collaboration with community groups that organize the screening of malnourished children in the community and refer them to the centers of the nearest health or support at community sites created in the localities remote health centers .

Recall also that the program of community care of acute malnutrition currently covers 40 health centers and 30 community sites across the country.

Before handing over the certificates to traditional nutritionists who have been trained , the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health and the Director-General of the ADDS have both highlighted the importance of the training of trainers who will in turn taught communities with the basics of preventive maternal and child malnutrition.

This shows the crucial role of the main concerned in this vital area . Especially since the last nutrition survey in 2010 had found a rate cut from 16.8% to 10% GAM and 2.4 % to 1.2% for global acute malnutrition between 2007 and 2010 .

However, the nutritional status of children under 5 years remains a concern with high malnutrition rates beyond 15%.
