National Solidarity Week 2026 – Ali Sabieh’s Stage: When local development strengthens economic autonomy

The Solidarity Caravan, led by Her Excellency the Minister of Solidarity, visited the city of Ali Sabieh, where the delegation was warmly welcomed by local authorities. This official visit began with a brief courtesy visit to the prefecture before continuing on to the field.

The delegation then visited the site of the market stalls inaugurated by His Excellency the President of the Republic during the launch of National Solidarity Week 2025. On site, the observation was undeniable: these facilities have profoundly transformed and revitalized local commerce. Today, these stalls house a diverse range of income-generating activities, from a hair salon and a cosmetics store to a cafeteria, a traditional clothing boutique, an auto parts store, and a general store.
Built by the Djiboutian Agency for Social Development (ADDS) as part of the PARISER project, these facilities address a crucial need in the city of Ali Sabieh. They are currently managed by the Regional Council, thus contributing to sustainable and inclusive local development. In an immediate reaction, the Minister praised the courage and commitment of the beneficiary traders, while describing this initiative as a “winning idea”, full of hope and development.

The visit continued at the Regional Council esplanade, where the delegation participated in an event organized by ADDS to launch the new PIRC project, named “Khairat.” In its second component, implemented by ADDS, this ambitious project includes the construction of several key infrastructure projects in the region, notably providing drinking water and electricity connections to several neighborhoods in the city of Ali Sabieh.
The project also includes funding for livelihoods through the creation of 30 Affinity-Based Mutual Aid Groups (ABGs) in the capital, for a total of 53 million Djiboutian francs, as well as the creation of 50 micro and small enterprises, as announced by the Minister in her address.
This event brought together numerous dignitaries, including members of parliament from the region, high-ranking civil and military authorities, and a strong community presence. Several GEA groups, notably from Ali Addeh and Holl-Holl, also took part in the ceremony to share their success stories, concretely demonstrating the positive impact of ADDS programs on improving the living conditions of the population.
