There are thirty civil society organizations (CSOs) in the region of Obock. One of the most active is the Association Action Plus (AAP) currently coordinating a large project with ADDS. To learn more about this program, we recently had a meeting with the president of AAP, Ahmed Mohamed Abdo.

The Nation: And if you tell us about the background and mission of the Association Action Plus (AAP) in the Obock region?

Ahmed Mohamed Abdo – The Association Action Plus is one of the oldest organizations of civil society working in the Obock region.

Our association has long been a partner of public authorities and international organizations as part of social development and the fight against poverty.

Our associative structure nonprofit is governed by the law of 1901 and set itself the objective of contributing to the social development of obockois, increase access to education, to promote culture and help vulnerable, including orphans.

What is your assessment now of the work of investigation, identification and diagnosis of associations of the Obock region that your association was conducted from February to March 2013 with the help of the Djibouti Social Development Agency (ADDS) ?.

It is important to me, first, that this initiative came within the framework of the coaching associations Obock region.

Of course, it was done with the invaluable assistance of ADDS and other partners. Now there is a database of membership organizations in the region.

This study has an inventory of officiating associations throughout the region and identify their problems profiles, needs, abilities and areas of interventions.

The return of the report will be useful to channel the actions that will be undertaken in Obock in the years to come.

This report is a reference tool to determine the conditions for the implementation of future projects that will be initiated in the area by our government with the support of development partners.

Djibouti’s Social Development Agency (ADDS) was there a few weeks ago, a consultation meeting with carrier of micro-development associations. Several of these projects were selected after the meeting. So what can you tell us about this initiative and what is the role of your organization in this program?

ADDS will implement a program to fight against poverty in the region of Obock on funding from the African Development Bank (ADB).

In this context, several obockoises associations will run a series of selected under the supervision of the association Action Plus projects. As NGOs Seniors, our associative structure will drive these community projects.

Note that this program is part of the strategy of the National Initiative for Social Development (INDS), initiated by the President of the Republic, Mr. Ismail Omar Guelleh.

How do you see the future of Obock in the decades to come?

You know, I’m an optimist. I remain confident in the sustainable and integrated development of the Obock region.

Indeed, our region has the natural and cultural assets that can help enormously in his quest for economic and social development.

With the policy initiated by the President of the Republic, obockois believe that their region will play a precursor few years in several areas role.
