The Minister of Interior His Excellency Omar Hassan Mohamed and the State Secretariat’s Officer of National Solidarity Zahra Youssouf Mrs Kayad have today launched the steering committee of the Solid Waste Management Project funded by the French Agency Development.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Interior in the presence of Director General of the ADDS, Mahdi Mohamed Djama, the Prefect of the city of Djibouti Cheick Ahmed Mumin President of the Common Balbala hassan Youssouf Nouho, and the Director General of Highways Charmarké Youssouf Moussa.
In his speech the Minister of the Interior, which is the steering committee chairman said that the government’s efforts have intensified in recent years to mentor and support the changes which our capital is facing particular regarding the thorny issue management of solid waste.
The Minister stressed that the meeting this morning is part of this dynamic and aims to launch the work of the steering committee of a major project to fight against urban poverty and improve the living environment of our fellow citizens.
Started in 2014, the funded Solid Waste Management Project by the French Development Agency (AFD) to the tune of € 6 million is being implemented by the Office of Highways Djibouti (OVD) with the support of the Djibouti Social Development Agency (ADDS) .The SEURECA-NALDEO group provided technical assistance.
The Project objective is the reduction of urban poverty, improving the living environment of the local population and poverty reduction relative and extreme, but sound management of solid waste. The project will create formal and permanent jobs in the area of solid waste management, improved sorting and recycling with job creation and the creation of a building materials manufacturing sector from of waste plastics introduced.
Last March 7 at district held a graduation ceremony of the first phase of works brought together on site FFDJ the Chief, General Philippe Montocchio, the mayor of the capital, Mr. Houssein Abdillahi Kayad, the prefect of Djibouti, Mr. Mumin Ahmed Ckeih, General Director of AFD, M.Ignace Monkam-Daverat and finally, the Director-General of the OVD, Mr Youssouf Moussa Charmarké.
This preparatory phase of work implemented by the French forces stationed in Djibouti (FFDj). This first phase of the project which consisted mainly of earthworks and poses serious was conducted by the engineering works section of the 6th support company of the 5th Regiment Interarmes Overseas (5th RIAOM).
