The State Secretariat for National Solidarity, in collaboration with the ADDS, held last Monday in Djibouti Sheraton hotel an information and awareness of social safety net programs workshop. Took part in the workshop: the Minister of Finance and Economy, the Minister of Higher Education, the Minister of Housing, the Commissioner for Planning, the mayor, parliamentarians, presidents of communes the presidents of regional associations, development partners, and senior executives of public administration.
The objective of this workshop is to exchange and share various social safety net programs implemented by the NSIS and ADDS but also from other sector departments, development partners and NGOs.
The agenda of the workshop was to present transversal social safety net programs and social register in three sections including the presentation of social assistance programs such as « cash transfer », and the presentation of programs employability and finally the social register with program coordination tools.
The presence of several ministers in this workshop demonstrates the interest that the government places social protection.
In his address, the Secretary of State for National Solidarity emphasized that it is important to have adequate safety nets to reduce poverty and vulnerability, and our country has since 2012 of an efficient institutional system to cope with shocks.
She also recalled that social protection strategy has with the government in 2012 aims to establish a type of safety net system for the poor and vulnerable populations who have escaped the traditional security system, and these last complete basic social programs such as access to education and health care.
The workshop ended with a discussion session and discussion on the opportunities of social safety net programs in Djibouti.
